Estill Springs History Lecture
Sunday, August 28, 4 pm

Jarod Pearson will provide a FREE lecture on "The History of Estill Springs" at Cowan Center for the Arts on Sunday, August 28th, at 4:00 p.m.

The area we know today as Estill Springs served as river port for Franklin County in the early 1800's. Some years later, the adjacent community of Allisonia was home to one of the largest flour mills in the entire South. The town served critical purposes during the Civil War as it was home to a large Confederate training camp.

Through the late 1800's and early 1900's, Estill Springs was one of Tennessee's largest resort areas. Several hotels and guests houses were built along the various mineral springs and welcomed big city tourists in search of rest and recreation.

The "History of Estill Springs" is part of the ongoing lecture series at Cowan Center for the Arts.
