Tennessee Antiquarian Book Fair

Saturday, July 16, 10 am - 6 pm and Sunday, July 17, 11 am - 5 pm

Book prices will range from $10 to $20,000, so there are sure to be interesting books for the leisure reader as well as the most avid collector.

$5 admission covers both the Book Fair in Monterey Station and all Speaker Sessions at the Cowan Center for the Arts. More Info on the Book Fair

Speaker Schedule:  The 2011 Tennessee Antiquarian Book Fair will include four speakers on Saturday Afternoon and two on Sunday afternoon.  The sessions will take place in the Theater of the Cowan Center for the Arts, unless otherwise noted. 

July 16, Saturday

Harold the Snail
Saturday 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Monterey Station

Ms. Nancy C. Hall is a devoted teacher and artist who advocates for art education and children’s literacy. She will introduce her new children’s series about Harold the snail and his friends Acre, Spot, and Flit. Half of her session will involve reading the first book in the series to children and parents. The other half will focus on the latest research on teaching children to read.

A Gentle Madness
Saturday 1:00 – 2:00 PM

Mr. Nicholas Basbanes is the author of A Gentle Madness: Bibliophiles, Bibliomanes, and the Eternal Passion for Books (Henry Holt). It was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in nonfiction for 1995, and was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year.

Myths and Mysteries of the Civil War
Saturday 2:30 - 3:30 PM

Dr. Michael R. Bradley is the author of several books on the War
Between the States period including Tullahoma: The 1863 Campaign;
With Blood and Fire: Behind Union Lines in Middle Tennessee; Nathan
Bedford Forrest's Escort & Staff in War and Peace; It Happened
in the Civil War, and Myths and Mysteries of the Civil War.

Too Close to Evil
Saturday 4:00 – 5:00 PM

Ms. Elizabeth Terrell is a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, Private Eye Writers of America, and the Tennessee Writers Alliance. A former special education teacher, she is also a graduate of the Citizen Police Academy, has a red belt in Tae Kwan Do, and is certified in Equine Sports Massage Therapy.

Sunday, July 17

Historical Urban Fantasy
Sunday 1:00 – 2:00 PM

Dr. David B. Coe is a prolific writer, specializing in fantasy and science fiction. His series include the The LonTobyn Chronicle, Winds of the Forelands, Blood of the Southlands, and Chronicles of the Thieftaker.

Book Collecting 101
Sunday 2:30 – 4:00 PM

Mr. Larry Woods and his wife Saralee own and operate the BookMan/BookWoman used bookstore near the campus of Vanderbilt University. His personal collection now numbers more than 100,000 books, not including the books for sale at the store. He is also a book reviewer for several newspapers and for television.
